Pests contaminate our food and daily-use items and can cause diseases. They also aggravate medical conditions like asthma.
Keep doors and windows closed to prevent entry. Eliminate attracting items like ripe fruit, stale bread and compost piles from the house and make sure outdoor garbage bins and compost containers are not close to the house.
Insects
Insects are the most common animals on Earth and occupy a plethora of ecological niches. They provide pollination to plants, are natural decomposers of organic matter and shape food webs in agricultural and natural ecosystems. They also serve as natural vectors for disease-causing pathogens and can act as parasitic species.
Moreover, they are a source of nutrition for wildlife and can serve as an alternative protein source. In contrast to meat and fish, insects present a lower risk of transmitting zoonotic diseases to humans and livestock when properly harvested, cooked and handled under hygienic conditions.
Rodents
Rats spread diseases, including rabies and hantavirus, and damage buildings by chewing wires. They also host fleas, which transmit their own diseases.
Inspect your building often, looking for droppings, urine (using a black light), gnawing and rub marks. Use nontoxic monitoring bait blocks in tamper-resistant stations and place glue boards and snap traps in non-visible areas.
Keep bins closed – rats love to get under piles of leaves or logs, which serve as shelter and a source of food. Remove weeds and clear brush from around your property to discourage rodents. Inspect compost areas and keep them closed as well.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are difficult to treat, and even with professional help, it may take weeks to months to eliminate them completely. Clearing out clutter reduces the number of places for them to hide. Vacuum and wash all linens and clothing frequently. Use encasements for mattresses and box springs, and seal cracks around light sockets, baseboards, doors, windows and carpet edges. Dessicants (substances that dry out the bugs) can be helpful but must be used carefully and may take a few months to work.
The wingless, reddish-brown insects bite people in their sleep, injecting saliva that contains anesthetic and anticoagulant, then draw blood through needle-like mouth parts. Bite marks may be seen but usually not felt.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are major Pest Control in Ajmer in restaurants, warehouses, office buildings and other commercial settings. Their droppings and shed skins contaminate food, utensils, dishes and other items and cause diarrheal diseases and unpleasant odors.
Cockroach infestations thrive where food, water and shelter are readily available. In the home, they hide in cluttered spaces such as behind stoves and refrigerators, under large furniture and in cracks and crevices.
These insects are prolific breeders, with females producing dozens of egg cases each containing up to 40 nymphs. Identifying signs of cockroach activity such as fecal marks and a musty odor can help prevent and control infestations. The use of traps and monitors is critical to early detection and correcting problems.
Wasps
When the weather warms up, you can expect to see wasps hovering around outdoor parties and picnics in search of sugary drinks. Despite being routinely demonised, these fascinating insects are pivotal for maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
Unlike bees, which live in colonies, wasps can either be social or solitary. Social wasps build and defend nests while solitary wasps live alone.
Both types can sting, but only female wasps have stingers. When introduced to agricultural crops, parasitic wasps help control pest populations by laying eggs in insect hosts. This reduces the need for harmful chemical pesticides, boosting crop biodiversity and improving crop health. In addition, solitary wasps serve as effective pollinators.
Ants
Ant societies with division of labor and complex communication between individuals have long fascinated human beings. They can also be useful to farmers, conditioning the soil and preying on crop pests, such as termites and caterpillars.
Ants can also be a nuisance in buildings, where they enter through termite- or water-damaged wood and nest in crawl spaces and basements. They can contaminate food and destroy equipment in hospitals and other sterile environments. Some species sting people, pets and livestock, sometimes fatally.
Barrier, perimeter and direct insecticide treatments are effective against ants when they are correctly applied. Insecticides should be used sparingly, however, to avoid exposure to children and beneficial insects like pollinators.
